Country Letters is a family owned and operated project designed to provide people with artistic and inspirational décor for their homes or businesses. Country Letters was started in 2013 as an off-shoot of Rustic Writing in Grand Island, Nebraska. Rustic Writing originated in Nebraska after my mother-in-law suffered a stroke. Unable to return to her job but still wanting to stay active and do something, she began taking her camera with her wherever she went. Inspired by an idea she found on Pinterest she began shooting examples of letters she saw in nature. For several years she took pictures without telling anyone until she revealed that she had 3-4 examples of every letter in the alphabet.
As my in-laws contemplated how they could expand their hobby they began taking small business classes at the local community college. After realizing early success through word of mouth from friends and family, they partnered with an entrepreneurial co-op in Nebraska known as Grow-Nebraska. The co-op has allowed them to reach a broader audience than just their local community. As their hobby has evolved into a side business they offered an opportunity for my wife and I to explore opportunities in Wisconsin.
With no natural sales medium like Grow-Nebraska in Wisconsin we began testing interest for photographic letter art at Arts and Craft shows in Wisconsin. Country Letters has developed a following of customers in Southeastern Wisconsin from the craft shows we participate in. We really enjoy doing custom work for people, and have shipped our plaques to customers all over the country. We are constantly encouraged by the people we have met and created pieces for. Seeing the joy and excitement in people who appreciate the personalization of gifts or items for themselves inspires us to continue on.
The partnership between Rustic Writing and Country Letters has also become a family affair through the sharing of creative ideas, the constant hunt to add letters, and the artistic process of building and displaying family names and inspirational words for our customers. The best part of creating these plaques though are the people we meet and the stories we have to share at the end of each show.
In the beginning the lion share of the pictures used in our collection were taken by my mother-in-law, who has a fantastic eye for seeing things that so many others don't, as the business has grown I have added many letters to our collection and we now have nearly double digit options for letters for each letter of the alphabet, but contributions are made to build our library by everyone in the family.
Most of the pictures are taken in either Nebraska or Wisconsin but many of our images may also have originated from our travels around the country and around the world. Regardless, all of the images used by Rustic Writing and Country Letters are original images taken by one of us and are never purchased commercially. Nor will you ever see our images used by large, online, commercial businesses.
The purpose for this venture is to enjoy the creative process as a family and bring everyone closer together. We thank you for taking the time to find out a little bit more about us and for your support and purchases in the future.
